It is an extraordinary life story: Sahim Omar Kalifa, born in Iraqi Kurdistan, fled the violence of war in 2001 and ended up in Belgium, where his family was already living. There he decided to study film, which he successfully completed in 2008. Four years later, he made the critically acclaimed short film Baghdad Messi. This story has now become a feature film.

Football is the great passion of 10-year-old Hamoudi from Baghdad, he dreams of becoming as good as his great idol Lionel Messi. One day, he is playing with his friends in the wrong place - he is seriously injured in a gruesome suicide bombing. It costs him a leg, but also his dream: he will never be a Messi again. His parents decide to move to a safer place, but Hamoudi does not know anyone there, nor is he allowed to play with the local football team. But Hamoudi does not resign himself to this.
