Il sol dell’avvenire
Italian director Giovanni is working on a new film in which he wants to tell the story of the Italian Communist Party at the time of the Soviet invasion of Hungary in 1956. Giovanni hopes to create a masterpiece, but the actors turn out to have very different ideas about the interpretation of their roles and, even worse, the financing of the project is not yet in place. There are also hassles in his private life. His wife, film producer Paola, is 'cheating' as she produces someone else's film for the first time in 40 years, while his daughter Emma brings home a new boyfriend who could easily have been her father. Can he bring order to this mess?
In this portrait of a director, Nanni Moretti switches between past and present, and fantasy and reality, recalling illustrious predecessors such as Federico Fellini (8 ½) and Pedro Almodóvar (Dolor y gloria). Moretti himself plays the lead role.
